Happy new year! The competitive season has not started, so we only have online tournament games to study. I selected three all-rounder builds for ladder.

This build goes for a standard Reaper expand and a Widow Mine drop, but the third Command Centre is placed before the additional two Barracks. I discussed in an earlier post that Protoss likes to go for two base Colossus with a delayed third Nexus. Logically, it makes sense that Terran’s standard two base push is less effective against a delayed third Nexus. The two base Colossus allows Protoss to take a third safely with the Colossus. A good response to a defensive build is to use an economic build. Although I suggested in the earlier post that Protoss could punish an early third Command Centre, I think a slightly quicker third is doable. This build produces Siege Tanks to cover this potential weakness (see first vod below). In the second vod below, Maru had the same idea, but he made a Viking instead of a Widow Mine drop because the opponent went for a Stargate tech. Consistent with my earlier argument, Maru did not make Siege Tanks, as the Stargate tech suggests the opponent is not doing a two base Colossus build.

Whatever mainstream builds you used in the last patch for TvT are still the metagame builds, so there is not much more to talk about (read more here). Interestingly, I have seen streamers and pros use Battlecruisers in TvT recently. The nerf to Raven’s Interference Matrix is indeed an indirect buff to Battlecruiser builds, but I don’t think that is the reason for its popularity. You can go mech or bio with this build.
The build starts with a familiar three Reapers and two Hellions opening. It is easier to expect the common variations when you play against this opening, so the Battlecruiser has an element of surprise.

I am a D3 Terran who hates marine/tank/Viking mid-lategame of TvT.
I am trying a 1/1/1 timing that goes into hellion/Viking/BC for the mid-lategame. With the theory that I would have air superiority and my BCs could kill any tanks, with hellions there to stop Marines pushing into my air.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and whether you’ve seen similar builds used by pros.
Siege Tank is strong in TvT, so you are handicapping yourself with your composition. It is doable though, especially when you’re more knowledgeable about the interaction than your opponent.
